The monument to Pavel Tkachenko-was opened on April 9, 1961 in the Transnistrian city of Bender in honor of the 60th birthday of the prominent figure of the underground communist movement of Bessarabia and Romania, an active participant in the Bender armed uprising of Pavel Dmitrievich Tkachenko.

The Jewish community of the city of Bender was first mentioned in 1769, when the city was limited to the Bender fortress. The community grew until the beginning of the XX century. In 1941, many Jews were deported by the Soviet authorities, and during World War II, most of the city's Jews were exterminated by the Nazis. In 1949, during Operation South, many of the returned Jews were expelled by the Soviet authorities. In the late 1980s and early 2000s, most Jews left Bender and immigrated to Israel or went to other countries.
