The Peón Contreras Theater, built in the city of Mérida, capital of the state of Yucatan at the beginning of the twentieth century and planned by European architects, is one of the most important opera houses in Mexico. At the beginning of 1916, the First Feminist Congress of Yucatan was held there, which was also the first in the country. It is also the oldest theatrical stage in Mérida that received its first name in 1806, later renamed on December 27, 1878 at the initiative of the newspapers Semanario Yucateco and Revista de Mérida, although the current building, in the same location as the previous ones, was built later, between 1900 and 1908, inaugurated on December 21, 1908 and reopened on December 13, 1981.

Parque de La Mejorada is the name of a square located in the historic center of the city of Mérida, in Yucatán, Mexico. It is located on 50th Street between 59th and 57th Streets in front of the former Franciscan convent of the same name, currently the headquarters of the Faculty of Architecture of the Autonomous University of Yucatan. The first railroad rail in the Yucatan Peninsula was installed in this park on April 1, 1870.
