Inaugurated in 1856, twelve years after the decision to create it, the Giuseppe Manini municipal theater is a construction of the 19th century inserted in a complex of medieval buildings. The Teatro project is the work of the Perugino architect Giovanni Santini while the work manager was the engineer Fedeli. The theater was raised in the typically medieval historic center. It consists of a platea of 160 seats and three rows of 17 stages each and the gallery. On the curtain there is an episode of the life of Gattamelata, a painting performed by the Roman painter Gaetano Altobelli, while the higher dome the audience was painted by Giovanni Traversari. The Traviata of Giuseppe Verdi was the work chosen for the inaugural evening. From the beginning, the theater hosted Operetta, lyric and prose. For the lyric, among others, we remember the appearances of tenors Beniamino Gigli, Alvinio Misciano and of the baritone Franchi. The theater experienced a period of decline around the 1960s and early 1970s was closed. With the 1978 earthquake, the conditions of the structure worsened further.
