Individual Sights in Bad SegebergSight 1: Marienkirche
St. Mary's Church in Bad Segeberg's city centre was built from about 1160 as the church of Segeberg Abbey and is thus the oldest three-aisled vaulted basilica of the brick Romanesque style in North Elbia and the architectural model for the younger cathedrals in Lübeck and Ratzeburg. Today it is the church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Segeberg.
Sight 2: Museum Alt-Segeberger Bürgerhaus
The Alt-Segeberger Bürgerhaus was already known at the end of the 19th century as the oldest house in the city of Segeberg and is today one of the few preserved small-town houses in Schleswig-Holstein from the beginning of the early modern period. As a simple hall house, it was built in 1541 in half-timbered construction with brick infill and expanded and rebuilt several times in the following centuries. Since its complete renovation in 1963/64, it has included the "local history museum" of the city of Bad Segeberg. In the first decades, exhibits from the petty bourgeois living and working world of the 19th and 20th centuries were shown in its historic rooms. After the Bad Segeberg Adult Education Centre took over the sponsorship in 2012, successively newly designed permanent exhibitions on historical topics of the city were created.
Sight 3: Noctalis – Welt der Fledermäuse
Noctalis – World of Bats is a bat center in Bad Segeberg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It was opened on March 1, 2006 and is the first of its kind in Germany. The Noctalis is located in the immediate vicinity of the Kalkberg Cave natural monument in Bad Segeberg, one of the largest German hibernation quarters for over 30,000 bats.
Sight 4: Segeberger Kalkberghöhle
The Segeberg Kalkberg Cave is located in the limestone mountain of Bad Segeberg, an anhydrite or gypsum rock uplifted by salt tectonics in the middle of the young moraine landscape of the East Holstein hill country.
Sight 5: Kalkberg
The Kalkberg is a 91-metre-high rock in the center of Bad Segeberg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The name is a misnomer as it is not made of limestone, but from gypsum.
Sight 6: Wasserturm
The Segeberg Water Tower was built between 1907 and 1910 near the Kalkberg. Until 1977, it served Bad Segeberg as a guarantor for balanced water pressure, then it stood empty for years. In 1988 it was placed under monument protection.
