Duke Karl is a statue of Charles IX in central Karlstad. It was inaugurated on June 19, 1926. As early as 1908, Karlstad's city council decided that a statue of Karl IX should be erected as a reminder that in 1584 he gave Karlstad city privileges. Christian Eriksson was commissioned to complete a statue on the advice of Anders Zorn. However, the city lacked money, and it was not until 1924 that the statue could be commissioned. However, the location of the statue was not determined. A paper model was therefore produced that could be moved around between the various proposed locations. The architect Ragnar Östberg was one of several who recommended a location in front of the residence, where the finished bronze statue was then also placed.
