Sight 1: 't Soepuus
't Soepuus is a building on the Kleine Kade in Goes, in the Dutch province of Zeeland. Until 1809, when a lock meant that the tide no longer existed in the Goese city harbour, it served as a tidal water flour mill. There was such a mill on this site as early as 1484, but the current building was created from reconstruction in 1554. In 1641 the building was renewed with the plastered pilaster façade. The turret with striking bell and the single-hand clock come from the Oostpoort, which was demolished in 1855. The mill operated on water that was collected in the Achterhaven at high tide through sluices in a building next to 't Soepuus and flowed back at low tide. An arch is indicated in the quay wall where the water was let through.
