The church of Santa Maria Maggiore is a religious building in Vercelli of which it is a co-cathedral. It has the dignity of a minor basilica. It was originally built at the behest of the Jesuit order, based on a project by Filippo Juvarra dated 1734, with the title of church of the Holy Trinity. In 1773, with the suppression of the Jesuits, it was exchanged by the Cathedral Chapter with the ancient church of Santa Maria Maggiore, which stood not far away, thus assuming its title.
