Sight 1: Chiesa di Nostra Signora delle Grazie
The church of the Madonna delle Grazie, in Sardinian language Nostra Sennora de sa Grassia is located in Nuoro, in the ancient district of Seuna. It was built towards the end of the seventeenth century: on 22 October 1679 the bishop of Alghero Francesco Lopez de Urraca granted Nicolau Ruju Manca permission to build a church in honour of the Virgin of Grace of Nuoro. On the façade of the building, however, is the date 13 May 1670; this would seem to be the correct date for the foundation, since in a notarial deed drawn up in Nuoro on July 10, 1677, we read of Nicolao Ruju Pugioni cap patrò de la capilla de n.ra Señora de Gracia. It is therefore plausible that the founder asked for permission to build only after he had started the factory.
