The Roman Cisterns are an archaeological site in the city of Fermo. Conventional dating places them around 40 A.D., based on the presence on a wall of a fragment of tile with the stamp of a builder who worked in those years. The building is located under Via Paccarone and partially under the former convent of Dominican monks adjacent to the Church of San Domenico. From the outside, the structure is not visible because several private houses have been built on it. The entrance to the structure was obtained in modern times from Via degli Aceti, a passage built at the same time as the construction of the convent in 1210. There is also a secondary entrance from Vicolo Chiuso, normally used as an emergency staircase. The only staircase from the Roman era is visible only from inside the structure, its exit has been walled up in recent times.
