It was commissioned in 1838 by the administration of Casale in honour of Carlo Alberto di Savoia, King of Sardinia, for having raised the city to the seat of the Senate in 1837. It is the work of the Milanese sculptor Abbondio Sangiorgio (1798-1879); the base is by the Bolognese Pelagio Palagi (1775-1869); the bronze casting was carried out in the Milanese foundry of Luigi Manfredini.
