The Botanical Garden of Bergamo "Lorenzo Rota", which is located on the open hill of Città Alta, is a small naturalistic laboratory where the passion and art of employees bring together exotic plants with the indigenous ones. It is part of the network of the botanical gardens of Lombardy, an association that the Bergamo garden has contributed decisively to creating and which aims to "protection, knowledge, promotion and enhancement of the heritage of botanical gardens, nature and of the environment ". It is named after Lorenzo Rota, a doctor and botanist who first described the flora of the province of Bergamo. The 10,000 samples collected by him are kept in the herbarium of the Botanical Garden consisting of about 50,000 exicca.
