Individual Sights in GyorSight 1: Synagogue
The former synagogue of Győr is located in the New Town, at 5 Kossuth Lajos Street. It was built in the 19th century in historical and Art Nouveau style. Today it serves as a museum building and hosts cultural events.
Sight 2: Evangélikus Öregtemplom
The Lutheran old church is located in Győr-Újváros, on the bank of the Rába, in the courtyard of the buildings of the Lutheran Convention. The large, towerless, copf-style church is one of Hungary's most beautiful Lutheran churches. It is one of the most significant monuments of the French style of copf style in Győr. The old church is still the best acoustic interior of Győr, so it hosts numerous concerts. The courtyard and the church can be accessed from Petőfi Square through the classicist red marble gate of the Convention Building.
Sight 3: Karmelita templom
The Carmelite Church of Győr is one of the most important monumental churches of the city, the most significant building in terms of the cityscape of Vienna Gate Square, which is the western gate of the historical city center. The church is a masterpiece of Baroque architecture. Its silhouette, which can be seen from many places in the city, is an indispensable part of the cityscape of Győr, one of its characteristics.
Sight 4: Széchényi Patikamúzeum
The Széchényi Pharmacy Museum operates in the former Jesuit pharmacy in Győr at Széchenyi Square 9.
Sight 5: Xantus János Múzeum
The Apátúr House, which houses the János Xántus Museum in Győr, was built in 1741–1742 by Benedek Sajghó, Archabbot of Pannonhalma. The magnificent Baroque palace became the home of the museum in 1949. János Xántus, naturalist, traveler and ethnographer attended school in Győr. The museum in Győr was established in 1859 from the collection of antiquities founded by archaeologist Flóris Rómer. The collection was managed by the Benedictine Order until 1949, when it was nationalized.
