The Church of St. Mary Magdalene is located in the district of Halepa, Chania. It began to be built in 1901 with the financial support of the Grand Duke of Russia George in memory of his wife Maria's stay in Chania. It is a church of Russian architecture and style with a decorative dome, the iconostasis of which bears icons of the famous painter Fotis Kontoglou. The inauguration of the church took place in 1903, while in May 1909 it was granted to the Municipality of Chania.

Eleftherios Venizelos Museum of Chalepa is an historic house museum in Chania, Crete, Greece. It is the paternal house of Eleftherios Venizelos, where he lived from 1880 to 1910, and occasionally, from 1927 to 1935. In March 2002, the Greek state assumed the ownership of the Venizelos residence, and then ceded it to the Eleftherios K. Venizelos Foundation. It is an historical house museum.

SS Tanais, mistakenly referred to as Danae or Danais, was a British-built, Greek-owned cargo ship that German occupation forces in Greece requisitioned in World War II. On 9 June 1944, a Royal Navy submarine sank her off Heraklion, Crete, killing hundreds of deported Cretan Jews, Cretan Christian civilians and Italian prisoners of war aboard. Sources differ as to the number killed; estimates vary between 425 and 1,000.
