Individual Sights in VelbertSight 1: Mariendom
Maria, Königin des Friedens is a pilgrimage church and parish in Neviges, part of Velbert, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The pilgrimage dates back to 1676. Neviges was the home of a Franciscan monastery from 1675 until the end of 2019. A church dedicated to the Immaculate Conception in 1728 became too small for the growing numbers of pilgrims in the 20th century.
Sight 2: Evangelische Stadtkirche
The Evangelical City Church is a church building of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland in the Velbert district of Neviges in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Sight 3: St. Mariä Empfängnis
The Church of St. Mariä Conception is a Roman Catholic Church in Neviges. It was built in 1728 as a pilgrimage church for the Neviges' pilgrimage and replaced in this function in 1968 by the Nevige's pilgrimage cathedral. In addition, it served as the monastery church of the Franciscan monastery Neviges until January 31, 2020. Since January 1, 2010 she has been the parish church of the parish "Maria, Queen of Peace" in the district dean of Mettmann.
Sight 4: Marienberg
The Marienberg in Neviges is a pilgrimage route with 20 illustrated stations, the motifs of which are taken from the rosary.
Sight 5: Schloß Hardenberg
Hardenberg Castle is a baroque former moated castle in the district of Neviges in the town of Velbert. It is located in the valley of the Hardenberger Bach a little north of the centre of Neviges at the narrowest point of the Bachtal and dates back to a re-establishment of the von Gevertshagen family at the end of the 15th century. It replaced Hardenberg Castle, which had probably fallen into disrepair, the remains of which can be found about 630 metres southwest of the castle.
Sight 6: Burg Hardenberg
Hardenberg Castle, also known locally as Old Castle, is the ruin of a hilltop castle on a 247-metre-high mountain spur between the districts of Neviges and Tönisheide in Velbert. About 600 metres northeast of the castle site is Hardenberg Castle. However, this is not – as a local legend claims – connected to the Old Castle by a secret passage. Nor were their stones used as building material for the castle.
Sight 7: St. Antonius von Padua
The Church of St. Anthony of Padua is a Roman Catholic church in Velbert-Tönisheide, Germany. Since January 1, 2010, it has been a branch church of the parish of "Mary, Queen of Peace" in the district deanery of Mettmann.
