The Heilig-Geist-Spital was a poorhouse and orphanage in the city centre of Hattingen at Emschestraße 38. It is located on the eastern part of the church square of the church of St. George. In 1474, the Hospital Order of the Holy Spirit built a hospital and inn here on a donation basis "in honour of God and the Holy Spirit and the patrons St. George and Margaret". It was administered by two guest masters, who checked the need and encouraged those in need who were able to work to cooperate. The operating costs were covered by public collections and pious foundations.

The Old Town Hall is a half-timbered house in Hattingen. From about 1420, the building was a market hall for meat sales, built of Ruhr sandstone. In 1576, the building was extended by two floors in half-timbered construction and used as a town hall.
