It is built on the site of the former vegetable garden of the Château d'Yvoire according to the art and symbolism of the Paradise Lost of medieval gardens. It is classified as a Remarkable Garden by the Ministry of Culture, is the sixth most visited natural site in Haute-Savoie and the second in the French Chablais after the Pont-du-Diable gorges.
