Individual Sights in VichySight 1: Vichy - Les grandes villes d’eaux d’Europe
The Great Spa Towns of Europe is a transnational World Heritage Site consisting of a selection of 11 spa towns across seven European countries. They were developed around natural mineral water springs. From the early 18th century to the 1930s, Western Europe experienced an increase in spa and bathing culture, leading to the construction of elaborate bath houses. These would often include gardens, casinos, theatres, and villas surrounding the springs and the bath houses.
Sight 2: Couvent des Célestins
The Convent of the Celestines of Vichy is a former convent of the Celestine order, located in Vichy (Allier) and founded at the beginning of the fifteenth century by Duke Louis II of Bourbon. The only surviving building was listed as a historic monument in 1927. This convent gave its name to the Vichy Célestins brand of mineral water, whose source is just below the convent.
Sight 3: Source des Célestins
The Pavillon de la Source des Célestins is home to the eponymous spring, in Vichy, a spa resort in the south-east of the Allier department. A vast oval-shaped hall, opening onto the park by seven arches, it was built in the 1900s in a neo-classical style by the architect Lucien Woog The name of the Célestins comes from the former convent of the Célestins which was located just above the spring.
Sight 4: Kiosque du parc des Bourins
The Kiosque du Parc des Bourins is a bandstand located in the eponymous park, one of the parks of Vichy, along the Allier River. Built in 1900 at the Parc des Sources, it was dismantled and installed at the Parc des Bourins in 1928. Abandoned and heavily damaged, it was listed as a Historic Monument on 1 July 1986 and restored in the 2000s.
Sight 5: Maison Art Nouveau
The Art Nouveau house is a private house or villa built at the very beginning of the twentieth century, in Vichy, in the Allier, at 50 rue de Strasbourg, and one of the rare examples of "modern style" in this spa resort. It has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1987
