The Grotto of Massabielle or Massabieille, better known by the generic name of the Grotto of Lourdes, is a Catholic pilgrimage site located in Lourdes, in the French department of Hautes-Pyrénées. It was in this cave that, in 1858, Bernadette Soubirous said she had seen 18 apparitions of the Virgin Mary and had discovered, on the indications she had given her, a spring whose water has since been considered miraculous by believers.
