The Marian (plague) column stands on the central Pilsen Republic Square, in its southwest corner, in front of the Imperial House. The column was erected by the town council in 1681 as a thank you for the end of the plague epidemic in the early Baroque style. Its highlight is a statue, a free replica of the Gothic sculpture of the Pilsen Madonna. The Marian Column has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958.
Sight 2: Cathedral of St. Bartholomew
The Cathedral of St. Bartholomew, originally the Church of St. Bartholomew, is a Gothic church located on the Main Square in Plzeň, Czech Republic. It was probably established together with the city around the year 1295. The church became a cathedral in 1993, when the Plzeň diocese was created. It was designated a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 1995.
Sight 3: Church of St Anne
The Orthodox Church of St. Anne and St. Rose of Lima is a newly consecrated church in Pilsen, Czech Republic. It is located in Bezručova Street No. 463. The church is registered on the list of immovable monuments as part of the premises of the former Dominican convent. At present, the church is used by the Czech Orthodox Church.
Sight 4: Franciscan Monastery, Plzeň
The Franciscan Monastery is located near the Main Square in Plzeň, Czech Republic. Originally belonging to the Minorites, the later Franciscan monastery was founded at the end of the 13th century. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Chapterhouse and Chapel of St. Barbara also belong to the monastery complex.
Sight 5: Nanebevzetí Panny Marie
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is part of the former Franciscan monastery and is one of the oldest in Pilsen. Today, together with the former Franciscan monastery, it is protected as an immovable cultural monument.
Sight 6: Muzeum církevního umění plzeňské diecéze
The Museum of West Bohemia in Pilsen is one of the largest museum institutes in the Czech Republic in terms of the extent of its historical, decorative arts and natural history collections. At the same time, it is a centre of scientific work in a number of scientific disciplines. The main building of the museum is located in Kopeckého sady 2 in Pilsen.
Sight 7: Old Synagogue
The Old Synagogue in Pilsen has been standing in the courtyard of house No. 80/5 in Smetana Park since 1859. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Right next to the Old Synagogue building is the Auxiliary Synagogue with a memorial to the victims of the Shoah, the Garden of Memories.
Sight 8: Divadlo Josefa Kajetána Tyla - Velké divadlo
The Grand Theatre is the main stage of the Josef Kajetán Tyl Theatre in Pilsen and an important cultural monument. The building was built in the Neo-Renaissance style between 1897 and 1902 according to the design of architect Antonín Balšánek. Between 1981 and 1985, an extensive reconstruction was carried out under the leadership of architect Pavel Němeček. The building was declared a cultural monument.
Sight 9: Pomník generála Pattona
The monument to General Patton is a sculpture erected in the Sady Pětatřicátníků in Pilsen. It commemorates General George S. Patton, who commanded the U.S. Army that liberated the city from Nazi occupation in May 1945. The authors of the statue are Václav Zůna, Lubomír Čermák and Tomáš Beneš. Their creation has a height of ten meters and a weight of ten tons. It is made of corten, a group of steel alloys from which tank armor was produced. The realization of the monument took approximately one year. The production of the monument itself was provided by the Vítkovice Ironworks in the form of a sponsorship gift.
Sight 10: Great Synagogue (Plzeň)
The Great Synagogue is a Reform Jewish congregation and synagogue, located in Plzeň, in the Czech Republic. The synagogue is the second largest synagogue in Europe.
