The eastern end of the square is connected to Avenida da Friendship and Rua de la Cirdere, to the north is connected to Rua Lisboa and Avenida Intrins, to the northwest is Avenida da Dr. Sualis, and to the south is the base of the Governor's Bridge on the Macau Peninsula. It covers an area of about 40,000 square meters. The street is named after the Governor of Macau, Amalius, who served as Governor of Macau from 1846 to 1849.
