Dhakeshwari National Temple is a Hindu temple in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is state-owned, giving it the distinction of being Bangladesh's 'National Temple'. The name "Dhakeshwari" means "Goddess of Dhaka". Since the destruction of Ramna Kali Mandir in 1971 by the Pakistan Army during the Bangladesh Liberation War, the Dhakeshwari Temple has assumed status as the most important Hindu place of worship in Bangladesh. It is also the largest Hindu temple in Bangladesh. It is one of the Shakti Pithas, the goddess-centric shrines of the Indian Subcontinent.

Shah Khwaja Sharfuddin Chishti is a Bangladeshi Sufi saint, Islamic personality and preacher. It is believed that he worked to spread Islam in Sylhet and Dhaka region. He came to Dhaka during the reign of Akbar (1556-1605) and devoted himself to the preaching of Islam. According to some, he was a companion of Shah Jalal. At present, his grave is beside the High Court in Dhaka.

The Bangla Academy is the official regulatory body of the Bengali language in Bangladesh. It is an autonomous institution funded by the Government of Bangladesh that fosters the Bengali language, literature and culture, works to develop and implement national language policy and conducts original research in Bengali. Established in 1955, it is located in the Burdwan House in Shahbagh, Dhaka, within the grounds of the University of Dhaka and Suhrawardy Udyan. The Bangla Academy hosts the annual Ekushey Book Fair.
