The castle of Ulldecona is a fortified complex in Ulldecona (Montsià) declared a cultural asset of national interest. It rises to the top of Puig del Castell, a small elevation that is part of the Serra Grossa. This complex is on the left bank of the river Sénia, the current political-administrative boundary between Catalonia and the Valencian Country. The wide visibility and the great fertility and richness of the land have meant that this place has been over time a strategic area of control of the territory from the Iberian era to the Middle Ages.

3. Esglèsia de Sant Lluc

Show sight on map

Sant Lluc is a church in the town of Ulldecona (Montsià) protected as a cultural asset of local interest. The current Temple, Gothic, replaces a church from the thirteenth century (1274-1280), to move, in 1274, the castle population to the valley. Its construction began in 1373 and in 1421 the main altar was consecrated. This date is given as the year of completion of the work, however 48 years are few to build the entire building and it is possible, according to the interruptions in the walls, that the work became more advanced in the Time. The provisionality of the feet wall and the ends of the sides show that the work was not completed but it is ignored how many sections of ship had the initial project. The upper part of the bell tower was built, or rebuilt, in 1817, according to the preserved project. In the eighteenth century, the architect Bertomeu Ribelles Dalmau expanded the parish by adding the chapel of the Blessed and the Sacristy. While the chapel has neoclassical elements, the sacristy reminds Baroque schemes.

Església del Convent de les Monges Agustines

The Convent of the Magdalena or Convent of the Augustinian Nuns is a building in Ulldecona (Montsià) whose church has been protected as a cultural asset of local interest. Dedicated to Santa Maria Magdalena, the convent stands next to the old portal of Vinaròs. Built on a primitive dwelling where the nuns settled provisionally in 1724. The cents came from the sale of the properties and goods ceded by Romuald Somó de Pallars in 1702 for the construction of a church and hospice near the Hermitage of La Pietat, which was not carried out. The primitive church was demolished in 1848, consecrating the current one in 1876. Because of the wars, the convent has been vacated several times. The confiscation did not affect the building, but it put the rest of the convent's properties up for sale. With the Spanish Civil War, it was used as a cooperative and communal dining room, losing what remained of images and documents from the archive. There is currently a community of cloistered nuns in the convent.
