4. Kirkut
The Jewish cemetery in Zabrze is a Jewish cemetery in Zabrze in the Zandka district located at Cmentarna Street. This cemetery was founded in 1872. The reason for its establishment was the establishment of the Jewish community in Zabrze and the difficulties in burying the dead, as the nearest cemeteries were then located in Bytom and Gliwice. The plot for the cemetery was donated to the Jewish community by Prince Guidon Henckel von Donnersmarck. Most of the matters related to the funeral ceremonies were dealt with by the Holy Brotherhood "Chevra Kadisha". The uniqueness of this Jewish cemetery results from the juxtaposition of modest matzevot with monumental family tombs, which should be considered a symbol of partial assimilation of the Jewish community with the Prussian community. The cemetery covers an area of about 2.2 ha.
