1. Achtkante molen

Show sight on map

The Octagonal Mill in Groot-Ammers, in the Dutch municipality of Molenlanden, stands out because of its shape among the seesaw mills that stand elsewhere along the water. The mill was built in 1805 to replace a seesaw mill, which burned down earlier that year. The Octagonal Mill is equipped with a paddle wheel that is narrower than that of the other mills in the polder, so that the mill grinds the smallest amount of water. The mill was in operation until 1964. The Octagonal Mill was restored in 1972 and 1991/1992 and drains the Liesveld Polder on a voluntary basis. The mill is owned by the SIMAV.

Show sight on map

De Jonge Sophia is a flour mill on the Wilgenweg in Groot-Ammers, in the Dutch municipality of Molenlanden. The ground sailer was built in 1773 on the border between the villages of Ottoland and Goudriaan, a good location for grinding for both villages. Due to changes in the environment, the Young Sophia stood in a corner of a business park from where he was moved by volunteers in October 1999 to prevent further decay. On March 27, 2004, De Jonge Sophia was fully restored; On 30 March 2007, the mill, which has now been repaired in a milling capacity, was officially put into operation.
