Chimanji's Ten Cedar (Chimanji no Jippon Sugi) is a general term for 10 giant cedar trees scattered in the mountains of Mt. Chiba in Chiba, Shimada City, Shizuoka Prefecture. There is a legend that it was planted during the opening and reconstruction of Chimanji Temple (Tendai sect) in the Chiba mountains, and the estimated age of the tree is 1200 years (Kaizan cedar) and more than 850 years (other 9 trees). In 1962 (Showa 37), 10 trees were designated as a national natural monument at once, but after the designation, two trees, "Kaizan cedar" and "Komochi cedar", have withered. Of the remaining eight trees, the fallen tree of "Yoritomo cedar", which remains in the tradition that Minamoto Yoritomo hand-planted, was reported in September 2012 (Heisei 24).
