Lachish Park is a 65-hectare park that stretches along the southern bank of the Lachish River, within the city of Ashdod and before the river's mouth into the sea, south of Ashdod Port. The length of the park is about 3 kilometers and its width does not exceed 200 meters. The park features a large petting zoo.

The monument was created by the bereaved mother, Matilda Halperin, to commemorate her son, Corporal Avraham (Avi) Israelovich, 19, who fell in Israel's wars, and the city's fallen soldiers.
