It is maintained by the Lippstadt Abbey, a corporation under public law, which, as a Protestant institution, took the place of a women's community living according to the Rule of St. Augustine during the Reformation, but is no longer denominationally bound today.

Schwarzenraben Castle is a baroque moated castle near Lippstadt-Bökenförde. It was built by the Barons of Hoerde between 1748 and 1765 according to plans by Johann Matthias Kitz. The remaining work lasted until 1777.
