The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes or Sanctuary of Lourdes is a Roman Catholic shrine and Marian pilgrimage site located in Lourdes, Hautes-Pyrénées, France. It is composed of several buildings and places of prayer on the site of the Marian apparitions of Lourdes in 1858, during which the young Lourdaise Bernadette Soubirous says to have seen several times a lady identified as the Virgin Mary, apparitions recognized in 1862 by the Catholic Church.
2. Grotte de Massabielle
The Grotto of Massabielle or Massabieille, better known generically as the Grotto of Lourdes, is a Catholic pilgrimage site located in Lourdes, in the French department of Hautes-Pyrénées. It is in this cave that, in 1858, Bernadette Soubirous says she saw 18 apparitions of the Virgin Mary and discovered, on the indications she would have given her, a spring whose water has since been considered miraculous by believers.
3. Basilique de l'Immaculée Conception
The Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, known widely as the "Upper Church", is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica within the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France. Constructed between 1862 and 1871 and consecrated in 1876, it was the second of the churches to be completed. The church was built on top of the rock above the Grotto and next to the Basilica of our Lady of the Rosary.
