The Museu Imperial de Petrópolis is a museum in the historic center of Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is housed in the Petrópolis Imperial Palace, the former summer residence of Emperor Pedro II, which was built starting in 1845.
2. Palácio de Cristal
The Crystal Palace is located in the city of Petrópolis, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Opened in 1884, the palace was initially built to house agricultural exhibitions, but today it hosts exhibitions and events.
3. Casa da Morte
The House of Death was a clandestine center of torture and murder created by the repressive organs of the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964-1985) in a house in the city of Petrópolis, state of Rio de Janeiro. In the house, several captured political prisoners were tortured and murdered by the military during the 1970s, a fact that only became known due to the denunciations of a single survivor, the leader of the VAR-Palmares organization Inês Etienne Romeu, who fought against the military dictatorship. She was captive, raped and tortured for more than three months in the residence, before being dumped on a street in the suburbs of Rio almost dead, but surviving to tell the tale. The house was provisionally listed by INEPAC in 2023.
