Plaza Independencia is an urban space, located in the City of Mendoza, Argentina. It was inaugurated in 1863. It is located in the center of the city between Patricias Mendocinas, Chile, General Espejo and Rivadavia streets.
2. Museo del Área Fundacional
The Museum of the Foundational Area is a museum located in the city of Mendoza, in Argentina. It was founded in 1993. It has exhibitions of elements of historical and archaeological value of the region. It is located in the historic center of the Old City, on Pedro del Castillo Square, where the foundation of the city took place, made by Pedro del Castillo in 1561 and where the colonial Cabildo later functioned before its destruction in the Mendoza earthquake of 1861. The slaughterhouse also operated on this site (1877), and then the municipal fair (1930).
3. Basílica de San Francisco
The Basilica of San Francisco Solano is located in Mendoza (Argentina). It was built in 1875. It houses the image of the Virgen del Carmen de Cuyo, Patron Saint and General of the Army of the Andes, and the baton of command of General José de San Martín, which is why this image was replicated in the Votive Temple of Maipú in Chile, in the place where the triumph of said army was achieved. Inside is the mausoleum where the remains of Mercedes Tomasa de San Martín y Escalada, her husband, Mariano Severo Balcarce and one of their daughters, María Mercedes Balcarce y San Martín, rest.
4. Plaza Pedro del Castillo
Plaza Pedro del Castillo is a green public space in the city of Mendoza, Argentina. It is located in the place where the old city of Mendoza was founded in the sixteenth century. It was the epicenter of religious and social life until March 20, 1861, when a great earthquake destroyed a large part of the colonial building that was around the square, which motivated the construction of the New City, in the area of the old Hacienda de San Nicolás, 1 kilometer southwest of the foundational area. In 1993, the enhancement of this square was inaugurated, along with the Museum of the Foundational Area, the Ruins of San Francisco, an underground chamber and the adjacent section of O'Higgins Park.
5. Plaza España
The Plaza España in the city of Mendoza, Mendoza province, Argentina, is a space and monument inaugurated in 1949, after the earthquake of 1861 that devastated the city. Currently, it is part of the green space that makes up the Plaza Independencia and is considered the most beautiful square in the city.
6. Plaza Chile
The Square Chile is an urban space, situated in the City de Mendoza, Argentina. The name of the same, is a homage to the neighbouring country of Chile, when this last loaned his help after the earthquake that destroyed to the city in 1861 and symbolises the friendship between the two countries, represented by his two heroes: José de San Martín and Bernardo O'Higgins; joining his hands on a sword.
