As a former hammer mill, the Freibergsdorfer Hammer is an important factor of proto -industrial development in the Ore Mountains. Of the previously numerous hammer works in Saxony, next to the Freibergsdorfer Hammer, only three further facilities, the Eisenhammer Dorfchemnitz, the Frohnauer Hammer and the "Althammer" of the Saigerhütte Grünthal remained.
