Originally, the park was considerably more extensive to the west, but in the 1980s it was greatly reduced in size by the development of apartment buildings on today's Am Büchel street. As early as the beginning of the 20th century, the Godesberg municipal administration had tried to develop the park for development towards the Rhine.
