Bohdan Zynovii Mykhailovych Khmelnytskyi was a Ruthenian nobleman and military commander of Ukrainian Cossacks as Hetman of the Zaporozhian Host, which was then under the suzerainty of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. He led an uprising against the Commonwealth and its magnates (1648–1654) that resulted in the creation of an independent Cossack state in Ukraine. In 1654, he concluded the Treaty of Pereyaslav with the Russian Tsar and allied the Cossack Hetmanate with Tsardom of Russia, thus placing central Ukraine under Russian protection. During the uprising the Cossacks led a massacre of thousands of Jewish people during 1648–1649 as one of the most traumatic events in the history of the Jews in Ukraine and Ukrainian nationalism.

The Transfiguration Cathedral is a religious building in the city of Bila Tserkva, the cathedral of the Bila Tserkva diocese. It was built in 1833-1839 in the courtyard of the dilapidated St. Nicholas Church. The customer, Alexandra Branitskaya, was buried on August 15, 1839 in the unconsecrated chapel of Alexander Nevsky, before she reached the completion of construction. It was built according to the project of the Odessa Cathedral.

The monument to Taras Shevchenko in Bila Tserkva is a monument-bust of the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, erected in Bila Tserkva in 1991. Taras Hryhorovych repeatedly visited Bila Tserkva, but a full-fledged monument to him was erected only in 1991, actually a few months before independence. The installation itself was timed to the 130th anniversary of the poet's death.
