Cemetery complex in Łomża. In 1801, outside the then borders of Łomża, an area was marked out for a new Roman Catholic cemetery. In the thirties of the nineteenth century, a separate area for the Evangelical cemetery was added, and in the early sixties also for the Orthodox cemetery. The boundaries separating these three necropolises underwent changes and eventually became almost completely blurred. Today, these necropolises form the so-called complex of religious and communal cemeteries. The cemetery complex is one of the oldest necropolises in Poland. Every year, individual tombstones are renovated. In the nineteenth-century cemetery in Łomża there are over 560 historic tombstones of various styles, art and materials. Tombs and tombstones in classicist, neoclassical, neo-gothic, eclectic styles, some with neo-renaissance elements, have been preserved.
