1. Trauernde Frau

Mourning Woman is the name of the Lustenau War Memorial. It is a bronze statue about three meters high on a 2.5 meter high stone pedestal, which was originally erected in 1932 in memory of the fallen of the First World War on the east side of the parish church of St. Peter and Paul. Later, the names of the fallen of the Second World War were added. The statue, created by Albert Bechtold, is one of the few war memorials in Vorarlberg that does not focus on heroism, but on the suffering of war. It is a listed building.

The parish church of St. Peter and Paul is the oldest of the three Roman Catholic parish churches in the Austrian market town of Lustenau. The parish of Lustenau-Kirchdorf belongs to the deanery of Dornbirn in the diocese of Feldkirch. Previous buildings date back to 1206, the current building was originally erected in 1830 and has since been radically rebuilt a total of three times.
